Muhammad Ali – Inspiration in Action
Social media is filled with the sad news of the passing of the great boxing legend Muhammad Ali. As a 7 year old boy I remember seeing him for the first time on TV and being dazzled by his speed and agility in the ring. I was captivated by his fast talking wit, his confidence and certainty.
His self-belief rocked the world. He was and still is an inspiration to hundreds of millions of people. Inspiring us to get off the sofa, find our courage, our greater purpose, and take action to achieve something meaningful.
I believe one of the greatest achievements in life is to be an inspiration to others. Inspiration compels us to have our own dreams and goals and proves it can happen. Inspiration sets us in motion. It gives us the courage to think big and make it happen. Inspiration changes the course of lives. Inspiration is the spark that lights the fires of purposeful action.
This purposeful action is the bedrock not just of personal achievement but of wellbeing too. It's the foundation for happiness and fulfilment.
If like Ali your dreams and goals are on the scale of being an Olympic gold medallist or world champion that's outstanding. And at the same time we are all inspired by the actions of regular people committing to their greater purpose. Just look around you. Who are the people inspiring YOU?
Who do you see who's found the courage to walk into a gym, start training or compete in sport? Who do you know who has started their own business. Who's taking purposeful action to achieve BIG in sport, or at work. These are everyday people like you and me. The're inspirational because they made the decision to act on inspiration and in turn they are inspiring us. Who are you inspiring with your action?
Looking at my twitter feed on the day of Ali's passing, it's filled with his quotes, rhetoric and achievements. I'm massively inspired by his example and the many lives he touched. I want to answer his call and in some way follow his example. I'm not a boxer, my profession is performance coaching. So to honour the inspiration Muhammad Ali gave us, I've set myself a challenge:
I'm going to launch a new programme called Inspiration in Action. Based on my work with olympians, business leaders and legendary top performers like Muhammad Ali, this programme will teach you how to get inspired and consistently take purposeful action. It's not for those content to sit on their sofa, the weak-willed, or the bone idle. This programme is only for those who are looking to get inspired, rise to the challenge and willing to take action to make their goals happen.
To your success,
