What is Stage Fright?
Stage fright is an irrational fear or anxiety about being in the spotlight. It’s very different to the enjoyable feelings of anticipation and excitement which are more appropriate to being on stage.

Stage fright is caused by unconscious triggers, such as ideas about other people’s judgements (real or imaginary) prompting physical and emotional responses. Examples of these responses are excess adrenalin, trembling and shaking, clumsiness, heart palpitations and in extreme cases even vomiting, fainting or other illness.

Because these responses are unconscious they are often accompanied by feelings of being out of control, uncertainty and lack of confidence, which further sabotage performance and can lead to performance catastrophes.
Treatment of Stage Fright
Expert performance coaching is a very effective treatment for stage fright. The specific approach taken and most appropriate techniques depend on your situation.

One example might be to re-train your unconscious triggers for stage fright to instead trigger resourcefulness, confidence or other more appropriate response choices. ‘Choice’ is the key word which means you can respond to different situations appropriately. Would being more comfortable, resourceful and confident be a better response for you?

This private service is run by PerformWell’s Performance Coach and Director, Paul Burden MSc. He offers extensive experience of overcoming stage fright and providing rapid recovery from anxiety and stress related conditions, including extreme examples such as military personnel with anxiety related to post traumatic stress disorder, media celebrities and burnt out athletes and CEOs.

We provide a results orientated service and where appropriate offer guaranteed outcomes.
